A little bit of History

The name “Sorrento” probably comes from the myth of the mermaids, Omero in his legendary “ ODISSEA ”, wrote about it as the land of the mermaids (half woman and half rooster, of which are represented on ancient vases ).

The first settlers were Italic, Greek or Punic. The Turks came here with their ships in 1558 sacked and destroyed it carrying many inhabitants as slaves. Influenced along the ages by many cultures Etruscun, Greek, Roman, French and Spanish, Sorrento lived a very prolific period.
